Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has slammed a section of Western Kenya leaders planning for Saturday's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forum at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega county.
Barasa termed the leaders as pretenders for organising meetings to discuss the report and unite Luhyas, noting they have never joined hands to discuss issues that affect Western residents.
He said the meetings were unnecessary since the report has not been 'opposed', adding taxpayers money spent should have been used to uplift the lives of citizens.
"I have never seen Western leaders who are organising for BBI meetings uniting to talk about things that affect Luhya nation but they now pretend to be uniting luhyas through a report that nobody has opposed spending millions of money that could help poor Kenyans," Barasa tweeted on Friday.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and other leaders were behind planning of Bukhungu BBI meeting which ODM boss Raila Odinga is expected to attend.
Other area politicians led by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale had planned a parallel meeting in Mumias but it was cancelled by the government over security issues.
Local political heavyweights ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his counterpart Moses Wetang'ula of Ford Kenya are expected to attend the Bukhungu meeting.
“Wetang’ula is a leader in this region and we have asked him to come to the meeting. I want to confirm he won’t attend the Mumias meeting since it was cancelled by the police and there is nobody in Mumias. I’m talking as Ford Kenya chairman in Bungoma and he (Wetang’ula) will join us,” said Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.
