President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday hosted two visiting United States of America senators at State House in Nairobi, a meeting which comes days after his visit to Caribbean.

The US Senate plays a key role in allocation of resources to developing countries, thus making the meeting all important for Uhuru's Jubilee government.

Senators Chris Coons and Van Hollen Christopher discussed infrastructure, security, investment and wildlife conservation with US being a major partner of the country.

The President and the senators praised the strategic partnership between Kenya and the US in security and agreed on the need to step up cooperation in infrastructure development

Senator Coons said he would like to see Kenya benefiting from the US Development Financing Corporation’s $60 billion set aside annually to support US companies invest abroad. 

On his part, Senator Van Hollen assured the President of US support in the fight against terrorism. President Donald Trump is yet to visit Africa ever since he took over from Barack Obama in 2017.

Kenya is currently involved in an active war in Somalia. Al-Shabaab militants have targeted the country for over a decade, killing dozens of Kenyans in the process.

But the Kenya Defense Forces, which is working jointly with US army in Somalia, has managed to liberate several towns in the Horn of Africa nation.

Kenya is a strategic partner of the US in East Africa and has often given Washington DC training ground for her military especially in the vast lands of Laikipia.
