Political analyst Prof Edward Kisiangani has weighed in on the relationship between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In a tweet on Thursday, Kisiangani said that Ruto would not have made it rise to Ruto had he not departed from Raila’s camp.
The analyst said that Ruto was wise to leave in time because he sensed dark days ahead adding that Ruto, who is considered as one of the front runners in the race for the presidency in 2022, is good when it comes to making political moves.
“If William Ruto had remained with Raila Odinga he would never have become our DP,” he said.
Ruto joined President Uhuru Kenyatta after falling out with Odinga following the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
The two were taken to the Hague-based International Court of Criminal Justice (ICC) because of crimes against humanity. They were later acquitted. The two rose to power in 2013 despite being suspects at the ICC.
Ruto supported Uhuru in 2017 after they pledge to support each other’s ambition. It is now unclear whether Uhuru will stand with Ruto following the handshake between him and Raila.
Raila has, however, remained economical with the truth as far as the race to power is concerned.
