Bungoma Senator and Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula says that he has warned his deputy Boni Khalwale against his closeness with Deputy President William Ruto.
Khalwale has since transformed himself into a close ally of Ruto over the last few months, and has been leading the pack in endorsing his 2022 presidential candidature in Western Kenya.
However, his moves seem to be angering a number of the region's leaders, including his party boss who now says he doesn't represent the party.
Speaking during the Maragoli Cultural Festival in Vihiga County on Wednesday, Wetangula also warned Khalwale does not represent the stand of the party in his endorsements.
“I have already told the bullfighter that the song he is dancing to is unknown to me.
There is no moment we sat down and asked him to speak on behalf of the party since the Secretary General is Mr Eseli Simiyu,” he was quoted by the Standard.
Wetangula was responding to Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli who openly urged him to expel the former Kakamega Senator.
Atwoli argued that Khalwale's pro-Ruto slogans are downplaying the ongoing Luhya unity campaigns and are a contradiction to the region's attempt to provide a strong candidate for the 2022 presidential race.
"We are trying to unite while one of our very own is hovering with the Deputy President which undermines our quest to unite.
I call that because the Party Leader is here, dismiss him from your party and see if Ruto will penetrate this region," said Atwoli.
