Mining Cabinet Secretary John Munyes has assured Kisii residents that President Uhuru Kenyatta has not sidelined the Gusii community.
Speaking on Monday at Tabaka Ward in South Mugirango constituency during a public participation forum for the construction of a proposed soapstone centre in the area, Munyes said President Uhuru has the interests of the Gusii community at heart.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta is committed to ensuring the soapstone centre is constructed in Tabaka so that local youths can get jobs and improve their livelihoods. This is a clear indication that the Head of State has not sidelined the community," he stated.
Munyes further appealed to local leaders in Nyamira and Kisii counties to stop politicising development projects.
"The national government projects which are yet to be completed should not be politicised. Too much politics may hinder the progress of the projects. Local leaders need to support President Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto to ensure the development promises they made during the 2017 polls are met," noted Munyes.
He reiterated that the construction of the soapstone centre in Tabaka is guaranteed since the project is meant to boost the lives of the residents and generate revenue.
