In a suspicious change of heart, the Deputy President William Ruto's faction of the ruling Jubilee Party now appears completely behind the proposed constitutional amendments.
It's worth noting that before the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report released on Tuesday, Ruto's allies, alias Tangatanga, had hinted at rejecting any attempts to amend the constitution.
However, the group now appears more behind the proposed amendments than even allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, who have always been for the changes.
Many would ask; what then has informed the sudden turn of events? This especially from people who have even taken their own party leader, President Uhuru, head on for leading the push for changes.
Kenya being a place where the majority of politicians and Kenyans are controlled by a small selected group of top politicians, its very likely that the group is following "orders".
For one, with all the heckling about opposing reforms in the BBI report we must seek to understand if their change of heart is for the sake of Wanjiku or for their political ambitions.
So far only majority senate leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi senator Charargei stand with their sentiments of rejecting the BBI report.
This even saw Murkomen being jeered at during the launch of the report.
Now as we ponder on understanding the sudden shift of support, remember the 2022 politics is not being downplayed with obvious aspirations from Deputy President William Ruto backed by the once vocal tanga tanga squad.
Chances are that the group is temporarily in support of the amendments as their leader plans his next step, so as to avoid the backlash as witnessed at Bomas.
Since the BBI made unexpected proposals, including no expansion of the executive, maybe they want their leader to weigh the suggestions against his 2022 bid before making his next move.
However, what about Wanjiku's aspirations? This is what the politicians including the President should be looking at. These other political gimmicks are not helping the country in any way.
