A Bomet Member of County Assembly was on Thursday arraigned before a Court of Law to answer to charges of assaulting a 34-year-old woman.

Chebunyo Ward Representative Josea Chepkwony was being accused of allegedly physically assaulting and causing bodily harm to Joyce Sigei.

Chepkwony was being accused of committing the offence on July 13, 2019 at Chebunyo market in Chepalungu.

Standardmedia.co.ke reports that the accused person on the material date slapped Sigei on the left cheek then proceeded to kick her thigh before pushing her into a trench causing her bodily harm.

Chepkwony however denied the charges before Bomet Principal Magistrate Pamela Achieng claiming that he was innocent.

Chepkwony who is also the deputy leader of the Majority at Bomet County Assembly filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.

Magistrate Achieng granted the application and directed that he be released on a cash bail of Sh10,000.

The case will be mentioned on August 28.
