Director of Social Services, Josphat Kimemia, said street families had been registered with the social welfare department in a bid address issues affecting them.

Kimemia said in the just concluded registration, the county government listed about 440 children who need help to lead normal lives.

Kimemia said the county government will support those street children who are willing to go back to school.

The director said so far 53 street children have showed interest in going back to school adding that the county has set aside funds to ensure they receive the necessary training and materials.

He said the government has set aside Sh2 million which will be used to train the children from next year and also provide bursaries to the children.

The county government has asked other stakeholders to work with them to ensure the exercise is a success.

“Street families’ crisis is a problem affecting other counties as well but we are at the forefront to eradicate it. We have a plan of bringing on board various stakeholders to help us,” said Kimemia as quoted by nation.co.ke.

The director said some of the 53 children who are affected by drug addiction will undergo counseling before they are enrolled in the eight institutions across Nakuru’s seven sub-counties.
