A 17-year-old boy is being held at the Kisii Police Station over allegations of defiling a three-year-old girl.
The incident is reported to have occurred at Nyakoe in Kitutu Chache South Constituency, Kisii County.
Confirming the incident, area chief Lawrence Omari said the suspect, Samuel Omurwa, is said to have lured the minor into his hut before allegedly committing the crime.
"The minor was playing with other kids when the suspect called her into his house on grounds that he wanted to give her biscuits. The minor's mother realised that her daughter was not playing outside with other children, something that prompted her to launch a search," said Omari.
The administrator said after 20 minutes of searching for the minor, she was found in Omurwa's bed, adding that she was unable to walk.
The chief further noted that members of the public clobbered the suspect before he was rescued by Nyumba Kumi officials.
"The minor was taken to Iranda Dispensary for treatment while the suspect was taken to the Kisii Police Station after residents threatened to kill him should he be detained at Nyakoe Police Station," said the chief.
Omari assured residents that the suspect will be arraigned in court to be charged with defilement, in a bid to serve as an example to men chasing young girls for sex.
