An elected Member of Parliament allied to the ruling Jubilee Party has opined that Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is qualified to run for the presidency.
Nyarabari Chache MP Richard Tong'i argued that Matiang'i is a performer who should not be taken for granted.
"Matiang'i has been hardworking since he was absorbed in government. I do not have any objections to him running for the presidency. As a community we need to be proud of Matiang'i and support him where necessary," noted Tong'i.
According to the lawmaker, the fact that Matiang'i hails from Borabu, Nyamira County does not mean that Kisii politicians should not throw their weight behind Matiang'i.
Tong'i argued that Matiang'i represents the Gusii community at the national level and appealed to Nyamira and Kisii politicians to stop criticising the CS' good work.
"I urge Gusii politicians to embrace peace and remain united at all times for the sake of realising development in the Gusii region. As leaders we should take advantage of Matiang'i's top position in government to push for development," he added.
The vocal lawmaker was speaking on Friday at Nyanchwa after he toured Nyanchwa Primary School to inspect the ongoing construction of new classes funded by CDF.
