A man is recovering at the Kijabe Mission Hospital in Nairobi, after he was involved in a grisly road accident along Outering Road on Saturday night.
The man is said to have hit a speed bump which sent his vehicle flying into the air before landing into Nairobi River, an accident that also left his passenger nursing injuries.
According to police details, Moses Munene was headed towards the Thika Superhighway from Dolnholm when the incident happened, at around 11pm.
Reports on People Daily indicate that the two were aboard a Subaru Impreza, which flew 60 meters before landing into the river.
Munene reportedly broke his led as a result of the crash while the passenger, who has been identified as Mary Mumbi, escaped with minor injuries.
She too was hospitalised, with the police having since towed the vehicle to Pangani Police Station after it was pulled out from the river.
This comes at a time when the government has expressed commitment to taming road carnage, especially during the festive season which normally records increased accidents.
Speaking on Thursday, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai called for sobriety, warning that those found flouting traffic rules will be arrested and charged.
"NTSA has been instructed to deal firmly with those found flouting transport regulations. Drunk driving will not be accepted," he told the press in Nairobi.
