Kameru will be completing his five-year term.

All eyes are now on President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kameru’s term ends.

The President can either decided to extend his term in office or pick a replacement for the smooth running of operations within the government.

Kameru took over office on August 21, 2014, after the retirement of Maj Gen Michael Gichangi. Gichangi left the office with several lapses in security.

According to Daily Nation, the NIS boss is credited for influencing the new policy direction taken in the national security and the government’s war against corruption.

The head of state has two months to name a new officer in the same capacity.

The process, which will also involve Parliament, is expected to take a period of one month once Uhuru decides not to extend his term.

Uhuru is likely to raid the Directorate of Military Intelligence when seeking to replace the Kameru.

According to senior government officers, security officials and military, the Head of State could decide to extend Kameru's term in office.

The State House is yet to speak on the potential successor of the NIS boss upon his retirement.
