Questions are fast emerging on the impartiality of Kenya's investigative agencies and their role of safeguarding the rights of the 'powerless' in the society.
In light of this, it is now proving that Deputy President William Ruto and Majority Leader Aden Duale have become Jubilee's untouchable duo. No one is ready and willing to put them accountable for their actions.
For instance, a former presidential aspirant cum human rights activist from the North Eastern region sounded an alarm, claiming her life was in danger.
Prezo Nazlin Umar alleged that Ruto and her ex-lover Duale were plotting to assassinate her using Al Shabaab hitmen. She went ahead and reported the matter to the police for investigations, but nothing is forthcoming.
What is even more disturbing is the fact that the duo has never been summoned to record a statement on the alleged plot. As the law provides, every citizen is entitled to government protection at all times irrespective of social status.
The late city businessman Jacob Juma expressed fear for his life and even reported the matter to police. As if that was not enough, he posted on his social media to let Kenyans know of his fears, only for his lifeless body to be retrieved days later.
Considering this, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) should up their game and summon the Jubilee duo for interrogation and necessary action. Failure to do this, the DCI will be setting a bad precedence for top politicians to abet crimes and get away scotfree.
