Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has raised concern over increasing cases of suicide in Gusii region.
Matiang'i appealed to residents of Nyamira and Kisii counties to stop committing suicide when facing with challenges in life.
"Government statistics shows that we have more suicide cases taking place in Gusii land. This is worrying because our people have opted to end their own lives when faced with difficulties in life," stated Matiang'i.
He challenged members of the community to find alternative ways of solving problems in life instead of opting to committing suicide.
Matiang'i pointed out that youths and married men are the ones who have been committing suicide something that has led to increased number of widows.
"Men should stop taking suicide as the last option when wrangles arises in their marriages. We have local government representatives, church leaders who are supposed to help in solving marital problems. I urge men to seek guidance and counselling since committing suicide will not help solve their problems," he added.
The former education cabinet secretary was speaking on Saturday at Mekonge SDA in Sensi ward, Kitutu Chache North in Kisii County.
