The crackdown, Matiang'i said, will begin this week.

Speaking at a church service at Mekonge SDA in Kitutu Chache North, the CS said he had received a report from the vetting committee and has said most licences for betting companies will not be renewed.

"I received the report yesterday. We are going to start serious operation against these gambling machines starting next week. These people don't even pay taxes," he said.

"We cannot build a country on gambling. This tendency has killed our young people. We can't educate our children only to end up on betting. We will not renew most licenses for betting companies as from next week," added Matiang'i.

He also warned politicians against careless talks and instead encouraged them to politic peacefully without verbal violence and hate speech.

"As much as we disagree let us not lose our tempers. Kenya is our nation and we must protect it by all means," noted the CS.
