It is just slightly over two years left to the next general election. And as always, politicians are playing their political cards carefully in readiness for that contest.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is one of the political heavyweights in the country whose political game plan is continuing to leave many guessing.
Whether to retire or not, after 2022 is no doubt one of Uhuru's political headaches in his over 20 years in politics.
On one side, Uhuru's right-hand men want the President to "carry on" after 2022, even if it means going for a new political position preferably the Prime Minister as per the Building Bridges Initiative report, which recommended for Premiership seat.
Former Gatanga MP David Murathe and Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary-General Francis Atwoli advancing "Uhuru is too young to retire" agenda.
On the other hand, the move if not the proposal, has already been opposed by some politicians including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has of late been one of Uhuru's critics. His message has always been: " Come 2022, go home Uhuru".
Making a choice on these two options could be Uhuru's biggest dilemma right now. Perhaps, the fact that he has not come out to openly express his wishes, confirms this.
Some may argue that if Uhuru continues to "hang around" after the expiry of his Presidential term, could in itself become a threat to democracy and could have an impact on his legacy.
With these pertinent issues in mind, President Uhuru Kenyatta might take his time thinking about his political future. Nonetheless, he will have to make a final decision on the matter, which could soon become an elephant in the room in the country's political chessboard.
