Uhuru reportedly left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 4pm. He was seen off by few state officials for a trip whose details remain scanty.

His State House handlers told the Standard that Uhuru had left for bilateral talks with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was expected at Riyadh later on Monday night.

Last year, Uhuru cancelled a similar trip to Riyadh under unknown circumstances. He was scheduled to visit the Middle East before changing his plans.

His Monday trip comes barely three days after he jetted silently into the country from Sochi, Russia courtesy of invitation by President Vladimir Putin.

Uhuru had earlier met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director for African Department Abebe Selassie at State House, Nairobi.

Mr Selassie commended Kenyatta for spearheading the war against corruption, saying Kenya is on the right path.

The IMF director introduced Tobias Rasmussen, the new IMF Kenya Resident Representative, to the President. Mr Rasmussen is replacing Jan Mikkelsen whose tenure ended on September 13.

Uhuru is currently struggling to contain Kenya's rising debts with critics accusing him of over borrowing. He has also intensified the fight against corruption.
