Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana has said that his county government lays off staff that are found engaging in corruption.
In a Citizen TV Live talk show that was updated on Facebook, Thursday morning, the governor noted that his county residents have never complained due of lack of essential services bought about by wastage through graft.
The second term governor argued that fraudulent employees could not be allowed to continue working in the county government once they were found.
He insisted that impunity has never been condoned in his government.
"It is rare to get people in Makueni complaining that they did not get access to a service because of corruption. If we discover corrupt individuals, we sack them. There are no sacred cows," said Kibwana.
The sentiments come after audit reports of 2017-2018 financial year, quoted by The Star, showed that only two counties, Makueni and Nyandarua had no questionable expenditure.
However, in September 2019, the Makueni county government was put on the spot on claims of misusing Sh1.4 billion which were suspected to been spent on 12 white elephant projects considered to be of substandard quality.
The report had been tabled to the Senate Public Investment Committee in Parliament by Narok senator Ledama Ole Kina.
The committee planned to grill the governor over the same but he did not show up on a material day.
The Senators had no choice but to forward the dossier to the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission for Investigation.
Governor Kibwana had, however, rubbished the report, claiming that it was unverified.
He denied accusations of misappropriating funds by his government.
