President Uhuru Kenyatta's reorganization of the cabinet on Tuesday appears to have benefitted close allies of Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Raila and Kalonzo have in close ties with the president with the later announcing that he will stand with Uhuru during the 2022 general elections.
The appointment of close allies of the two leaders could therefore not go unnoticed.
The president appointed former Nyakach Member of Parliament Peter Odoyo to be the new Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the ministry of Defense.
Reports indicate that Peter Odoyo is a close ally of Raila Odinga and was once his senior adviser on foreign and diaspora.
The new Defense CAS has also worked in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board.
“I have made appointments of the Chief Administrative Secretaries. Peter Odoyo will be Chief Administrative Secretary for Defense,” President Uhuru announced.
Popular Machakos politician Wavinya Ndeti who once vied for the gubernatorial seat of the county on a Wiper Party ticket but lost was appointed as the CAS in the ministry of Transport.
Wavinya has been in close connection with the former Vice President and has been one of his strong supporters in the Ukambani region where he has faced opposition from a section of the leaders.
The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri was sacked from the ministry; a move which has been interpreted as a punishment for Deputy President William Ruto.
