Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has raised concerned over challenges facing the education sector in Kenya.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Mwaura claimed the education sector has been taken over by cartels.
He urged stakeholders in the education sector to unite and restore its lost glory before it is too late.
“There are many cartels in the education system; if you trace the money from when it leaves the ministry, you realise a lot of it does not do the intended purpose, corruption even among principals is very rampant,” he said.
On his part, Makueni MP Dan Maanzo asked the government to come up with a system that will ensure all children in the country have access to education.
“Legislators need to come up with a system that ensures no child is left out on education,” he said.
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina reiterated the above sentiments, adding that school fees should be reduced to make education affordable to all.
“Certain parents are charged where they cannot afford, what needs to be done is for county governments to take action and ensure no child is left out. We need to re-align our existing resources and ensure we work together,” he said.
