The Kenyan skating team currently in the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital Kinshasa, the capital, for the inaugural African Roller Games, has said that it is fast running out of cash to continue participating in the games, reports The Nation.
Mercy Omwina, who is the coach of the New Horizon Skating Team, said in a post on Twitter that the team which has been operating on a shoe-string budget is in dire straits.
She called on Kenyans to support the team with any amount so that the skating team members can continue participating in the Kinshasa games.
She also urged Kenyans to remember the distressed team in their prayers.
“We are back on road races today, keep the team in prayer. We are running short of accommodation money. Kindly support with any amount, " Mercy Ominwa wrote.
The team arrived in DRC on Monday and has staged an impeccable performance having won two gold and three silver.
Media reports indicate that they applied for government sponsorship but they were not successful, forcing them to dig into their pockets.
The distress call comes in the wake of concerns about the abandonment that men and women representing the country at international events are suffering at the hands of the government.
