Only Eight pupils who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education from Matungulu and Kangundo sub-county have been selected for Wings to fly scholarship.
Speaking after the flagging off ceremony event in Tala town Eunice Muuo a member of the selection committee told the press that 148 pupils had applied for the sponsorship.
She said that it was very hard to settle on eight pupils disclosing that all those who applied were very needy.
"There were only eight vacancies, four for Kangundo and four for Matungulu. We had a very hard time coming up with the list of the eight because most of those who applied are very needy. We did it on the merit of vulnerability," said Muuo.
She appealed to other stakeholders, corporate bodies and well wishes to ensure they help the kids who were left out acquire education.
"There are very needy kids in the sub-county who need a scholarship. Anyone who can offer a helping hand should do so because they can't all fit in Wings to fly," she said.
Ann Mukulu one of the beneficiaries from Kikondeni primary school told of how happy she was to be selected for the scholarship.
The young girl said that she had been staying with her grandmother who has been taking care of her.
"I scored 385 marks and I'm thankful to God that Equity bank came to my rescue to make my dream of joining high school come true," she said.
"My dream career is an accountant and I have hopes I will achieve it. I want to achieve in life so that I can help my grandmother who did all she can to ensure I learn," she added.
