Differences between former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto escalated on Saturday with the two reading different scripts on proposed constitutional changes.
The country is likely to be subjected to another referendum, with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga supporting Building Bridges Initiative report.
Although the report is not yet out, Mr Odinga has continued to drum support for parliamentary system, which will create room for introduction of powerful Prime Minister post.
On Saturday at Narok, he said the system will help solve leadership divisions in the country, adding that presidential system has been a big let down.
“We realised that corruption, poverty and lack of inclusiveness was gripping the nation. That is why we formed the BBI to collect views from Kenyans,” he said.
“Some people are claiming that the referendum is for a few people to get positions. What we want is the oneness of Kenya,” he said in an apparent reference to Deputy President William Ruto, who voiced his opposition to the calls on Saturday in Busia.
But at Busia, Dr Ruto who has been inconsistent in the proposed referendum, accused Odinga of subjecting the country to elections mood all the time.
He insisted that only few individuals want expansion of the executive, adding that the country is not ready for another referendum drive.
“It’s not possible that we politic during general elections and continue with the same at the time we should be working hard to improve lives of residents.
"We will not entertain politics of creating positions for a few individuals at the expense of delivering services and empowering Kenyans," he Ruto said as quoted by Daily Nation.
