Tindiret Member of Parliament Julius Melly has faulted the National Assembly leader of Majority Adan Duale following his utterances over the nomination of former Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Sarah Serem as the Kenyan ambassador to China.
Duale had asked the National Security, Defense and Foreign Relations Committee to be ruthless with Serem when vetting her.
The Garissa Township MP had also asked the committee to recall how Serem slashed their salaries as MPs in the 11th Parliament.
However, the Nandi caucus leader said they fully support Serem’s appointment noting that it would be wrong to use parliament to settle scores.
“I have told Duale that it will not be good to use Parliament to criticize a person who was merely performing her duties. Serem was leading a commission that has many employees and she was making sure the government programs and policies are implemented,” Melly said at Kerotet primary school in Soy constituency on Sunday during a funds drive to support students from the area joining universities.
“It is not good to oppose the president’s appointment and we as leaders from Nandi and Rift Valley we will fully support her appointment as the ambassador to China,” he added.
President Uhuru Kenyatta recently appointed Serem to be the ambassador to China, subject to vetting and approval by MPs.
