Speaking on Radio Maisha Wednesday morning, Kibera revealed how one such attempt almost went sour, forcing him and his gang to watch Luos' coffins from afar.

Kibera who made a name for himself in the 90s as the most wanted grave robber recalled how his hands got stuck on a coffin in a robbery attempt in Migori county.

He narrated that they had hijacked a body on transit, but had to abolish the operation mid way after the coffin, apparently smeared with black powers, refused to let them take it.

‘’Tulivamia gari pale Migori ili tuibe jeneza lakini ikakatalia mikononi mwangu. Ni pale tu ilipozunguka na kuanguka ndipo tuliweza kuiondoa (the coffin stuck on my hands, its only when it landed on the ground that we managed to free me),’’ he said.

He revealed that the day marked his end for preying on coffins meant for people from the western end of the nation, including the Gusiis and Luhyas.

‘’Kutoka hiyo siku niliwaheshimu waluo, Waluhya na Wakisii (from that day I developed respect for Luos, Luhyas and Kisiis),’’ he added.

Kibera said that they sold the stolen caskets to coffin dealers in Nairobi, before he surrendered himself to the police.

This was after all other members of his gang were shot down in Nairobi in a botched coffin robbery attempt.

He has since transformed into a pastor and youth motivational speaker.
