The officer, Police Constable Hesbon Okemwa Anunda, was discovered murdered in cold blood with his gun missing.

On Wednesday, Police Post in Lamu East, reported that the officer was nowhere to be found and gave the residents a 24-ultimatum to share information about him before they face dire consequences.

Anunda, who was attached to the Tchundwa Police Post in Lamu East, had left the station with a G3 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition.

A guard at the station reported that the officer never returned on that fateful day.

Confirming the incident,  Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said that the body was found close to three kilometers from the station where he was attached.

He condemned the incident and promised that the police will come to the bottom of the matter with immediate effect.

He also said that the body showed cuts, adding that he could have been murdered elsewhere before the body was brought to the scene of the crime.

“The police officer has been found dead. The body was discovered about three kilometres from Kizingitini on Saturday at around 6pm. Members of the public are the ones who gave police a tip off that led to the recovery of the body. We’re yet to get the gun since it wasn’t found where the body was lying,” said Mr Macharia, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The incident has caused tension in the areas following the increased cases of crime.

The police had organised a Baraza with the residents of the area before the body was found.

He further said that they are tracing the phone calls of the deceased to establish what transpired before he was found dead.
