President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday evening took Kenyans by surprise when he issued his end of year speech at 7:30 pm, unlike the usual midnight time.
In his end of year speech, President Kenyatta acknowledged that the year 2019 had its fair share of challenges.
He, however, stated that achievements that the country had made in terms of attaining national goals were commendable.
He further pointed out that the end of one year and the beginning of another should be a moment of reflection.
The President avoided politics in his speech and reminded Kenyans that his administration was committed to finding solutions to the problems that Kenyans are facing including unemployment, poverty and hunger.
"Looking back at 2019, but we must also accept that it was not without its challenges. I believe we can take pride in the extent to which we have made progress towards the full attainment of our national aspirations as posed by our constitution, the Kenya vision 2030 and indeed as focused through our big four agenda pillars of food security, of affordable housing, universal health coverage and job creation through manufacturing," President Kenyatta said in his national address.
“My administration has committed to addressing the challenges of unemployment, poverty, hunger, inequality and poor health," he added.
The president also reflected on the achievements that the country has made in 2019 in various fields such as sports, research and innovation, ease of doing business and the fight against corruption.
