Kosgei won the race after clocking 48 minutes and 56 seconds, followed by Sheila Chelangat who clocked 50 minutes and 10 seconds.

Tisadk Nigus of Ethiopia finished third in 50 minutes and 12 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Brigid said she had just resumed training after a long break, adding that the race was a determiner to gauge her body.

“The race was part of my training regime because I wanted to see how my body will react after a long break. I started my training two weeks ago and I’m happy with the win,” she said as quoted by Nation

Kosgei further noted that she will hit the ground running this new year, with her focus being qualifying for Olympics, and winning top world marathons next season.

“I'm looking forward to being named in the team that will be heading to the Olympics Games and my target is to win gold. I also want to participate in one race in April,” she said.

Kosgei broke the women world marathon record initially set by Paula Radcliffe after winning the Chicago Marathon in 2:14:04 in October 2019
