The senator said President Kenyatta needs to be friendly to Kenyans in order to leave a good legacy when his term ends in 2022.

Kilonzo Junior said the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel and petroleum products is an unnecessary burden to Kenyans.

Addressing the press in Nairobi on Tuesday, the senator said Kenyans are already burdened with taxes.

He said the VAT on fuel will make the lives of common Kenyans more difficult.

“The president should be friendly and cushion Kenyans from hard economic lives if he wants to be remembered,” Kilonzo said.

Kilonzo pleaded with President Kenyatta to suspend the VAT on fuel so as to save Kenyans.

“Kenyans are waiting for the president to make the final decision on this matter, he should not let them down,” he added.

The 16 percent VAT on fuel continues to cause an uproar with some politicians across the divide calling for its immediate suspension.

Some politicians have also threatened to stage peaceful protests if the government fails to suspend the VAT.
