City advocate Otachi Bw'Omanwa has been appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to take over as National Lands Commission boss for a non-renewable term of 6 years.
Mr Otachi, a seasoned international lawyer, inherits a commission that had been soaked into various scandals during the final days of former commissioners.
In a Gazette notice on Wednesday, Uhuru appointed eight others as commissioners and all will serve same period. This means that they will exit office in 2015.
They are: former Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi, former Egerton University vice chancellor James Tuitoek, former Isiolo Woman MP Tiyah Galgalo, Alister Mutugi, Reginald Okumu and Gertrude Nduku
Others are Esther Murugi, James Tuitoek, Getrude Nguku, Reginald Okumu, Kazungu Kambi, Hubbie Hussein Al-Haji, Alister Mutugi and Tiya Galgalo.
The appointment of the former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kambi Kazungu was initially opposed by a number of people including COTU boss Francis Atwoli.
Mr Otachi was part of President Uhuru Kenyatta's legal team at the International Criminal Court in the Hague and successfully led the defense team.
Uhuru, who had been accused of crimes against humanity, was vindicated by the court on 2015, five years after battling to clean his name.
Otachi's predecessor Muhammed Swazuri, was at some point locked over the controversial compensation of SGR land. He's still battling in court.
