Police at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi are holding a woman who was on Monday arrested with an ivory bangle.
Spanish national Pich-Aguilera Maria was nabbed with the outlawed jewellery was on her way to Dar es Salaam from Nairobi, before he landed in the hands if the law enforcers.
The incident was confirmed by the Kenya Wildlife Service which added that the ornament weighs 0.025 grams, reports the Citizen Digital.
The woman who is aged 50 is expected to be arraigned at the JKIA court later in the day, considering that being in possession of such is considered a crime in Kenya.
The government through the KWS have been fighting against poaching in the country, for fear of depletion of targeted wild animals which could in turn affect tourism.
In June this year, the KWS came up with a new technique of sweeping away animal's footprints as one way of keeping them safe from possible poachers trailing them.
This followed the erection of surveillance cameras in some of the parks and sanctuaries known for wildlife, especially rhino's, like the Ol Pejeta Sanctuary, to keep the animals safe.
Kenya heavily depends on tourism as a source of income, but has been facing an equal pressure from the poachers who are mostly targeting rhinos and elephants for their tusks.
