The mobile service provider had been asked not to register Itumbi’s contact after he was linked to the alleged plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto before 2022.

Itumbi, who was arrested and charged over the matter, denied the allegations leveled against him. Itumbi had threatened to release a tape showing what had transpired at the Lambada Hotel meeting before the court declined to agree to his request.

“I have an audio and video recording of material that could show, subject to investigations, that a meeting could have happened at a place called La Mada at which discussions were held on the possibility of the assassination of an employer, particularly the Deputy President,” he said

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers  has reportedly written to Safaricom asking it not to register Itumbi until probe into the matter is complete. Itumbi lamented that he was only a victim of circumstance.

The second in command, however, did not record an official statement in regard to the assassination plot after the rumors surfaced online. The allegations elicited mixed reactions from Ruto’s camp.
