The weatherman has sounded an alarm that January could see many parts of the country experience huge rainfalls. According to the Kenya Meteorology Department, the next two weeks of January could have rains with sunny and dry weather expected towards the end month.
A few Western Kenya regions together with Central Kenya had been earmarked for heavy rainfalls which may result in floods. These included Victoria Lake Basin south, Rift valley south among others.
Northern Eastern parts of Turkana, Samburu and West Pokot counties were expected to be sunny and dry, with temperatures ranging between 30-40 degrees Celsius.
Other parts were expected to receive light rains during the morning hours together with showers in the afternoon or night hours. These included parts like Nairobi, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Nyeri in addition to Tharaka Nithi.
Coastal parts of Mombasa, Tana River, Kwale, Lamu and Kilifi Counties would receive occasional rainfalls for the first half of January still, with dry and sunny conditions expected almost towards the end of January like many other parts.
Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Machakos plus Taita were set to experience rainfalls slightly higher than those usually received in January. Mandera and Marsabit were expected to be sunny all through. The heavy which have been on for the last three months are reported to have wreaked havoc to many parts leading to loss of property and lives for many.
