Residents of Ichuni in Nyansiongo, Nyamira County were left in a rude shock after a body of a woman was found dumped by the roadside on Monday.
Confirming the incident, Nyamira County commissioner Amos Mariba said the body of the woman had deep cuts on her head a clear indication that her killers used a machete to attack her.
"The deceased could not be identified immediately by residents since he does not hail from the area. She might have been killed elsewhere before her killers decided to dump her body in the area," said Mariba.
He appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with police to bring the suspects to book.
"There is no cause for alarm. Members of the public should embrace peace and report to police anyone they suspect might have killed the deceased. Police officers have launched probe following the murder," stated the commissioner.
Mr Mariba further argued that the body of the woman was put in a sack.
He confirmed that police officers picked the body and took it for preservation at Gucha hospital morgue in Keroka where it will be identified.
The county security boss opined that intensified security patrols are ongoing in the area.
