Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has launched a scathing attack on COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, over his alleged remarks during the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forum at the Bukhungu stadium, Kakamega County, on Saturday.
Barasa claimed Atwoli lectured ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula, telling them they are unfit to run for the presidency since they are not moneyed.
"Atwoli, who are you to lecture Mudavadi and Wetang'ula that they are poor to run for presidency and that they should keep quiet while attending a meeting they haven't contributed to the handouts that the attendees would receive? Mzee you overate yourself!" the vocal MP tweeted.
However, it is important to note that both Mudavadi and Wetang'ula were given a chance to make their remarks, during the event that was attended by various political bigwigs including ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Barasa further accused Atwoli of being interested at enriching himself at the expense of others, and warned him that the politician he was allegedly planning to convince Luhyas to back will be rejected.
"Respect is not demanded but earned. You are the most confused (among) Mulembe people and whomever you are trying to sell to the community will not sell this time round. You are a true tumbocrat with all indicators of a cursed man," added the MP allied to Deputy President William Ruto's camp.
During the Bukhungu rally that was attended by hundreds of BBI supporters and dozens of leaders, the COTU boss described Mudavadi and Wetang'ula as his products and cautioned them against being tempted to join Ruto's faction.
“These two are not thieves but if you walk with Ruto you will be left behind. The only way to get a seat is through the BBI,” said Atwoli, who also challenged the duo to dissolve their parties and form a single political outfit.
