Sifuna has risen rapidly within the ranks of ODM party, following his appointment as the party's spokesman early this year. He was part of the party's legal team previously.

Silas Jakakimba, Raila's Secretary at Capitol Hill, says the ODM leader trusts Sifuna due to his loyalty. According to him, Raila elevated Sifuna after gaining trust.

"His loyalty, ability, wits and forward-looking leadership is what has ALREADY earned him the TRUST of the @TheODMparty led by H.E. @RailaOdinga . Earning that trust is PRICELESS," he said.

In 2016, Sifuna temporarily took over the Secretary-General position after ousting Ababu Namwamba following claims that the former Budalang'i legislator was a mole.

Ababu had been appointed to the position after the retirement of Prof Anyang' Nyong'o. However, his short stint was marred by stiff internal opposition.

Raila briefly appointed Dr Agnes Zani to hold the position before Sifuna's substantive appointment. Since then, Sifuna has been fighting battles for ODM.

“There are many more problems this country has that cry for solutions, among them corruption, land grabbing, political blackmail and constant threats of violence, all of which the DP’s imprimatur is almost always present,” he once told off DP William Ruto.

In 2017, Raila fielded Sifuna in Nairobi senatorial race which he lost narrowly to Johnson Sakaja. He had lost ODM nominations for Kanduyi MP.

Sifuna has been coordinating ODM by-election campaigns across the country. He played a significant role in Ganda ward by-election victory last week.
