Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has predicted that opposition leader Raila Odinga will take another shot at the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator predicted another Odinga candidature in the much anticipated polls, but at the same time foresaw that he will suffer his fifth loss.
He cautioned the former Primer and his supporters against casting hopes on his (Raila) African Union Infrastructure Representative job, saying that it will not save him.
Raila has been seen going around the continent meeting African leaders, but Murkomen says that whatever he is trying to do will not be of any help to him in the race.
"When he was Prime Minister, he met so many presidents and lost elections. Even if he is in another round of those meetings, to me that is inconsequential. All we know is that he will be candidate in 2022 and such trips won’t help him,” he said, according to the Standard.
Murkomen is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, who has already announced that he will be in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta whose term ends in 2022.
However, in his opinion, National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed who is a close ally of Raila said that Kenyans should not read too much in Raila's trips.
He insisted that Raila's trips which have seen him meet five African presidents in a month have more to do with the well being of the nation and Kenyans than realizing his own goals.
“It’s for a fact that as a special envoy it requires that he contacts many presidents and Heads of State to discuss how to expand African infrastructure,” the Suna East MP said.
