Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has strongly hit back at Deputy President Dr William Ruto for describing Raila Odinga as lord of poverty.
Speaking on Monday in his constituency, the outspoken legislator said that the DP, while branding Raila the lord of poverty, could not escape the tag of thief.
"I have heard the deputy president referring to Mweshimiwa Raila Odinga as lord of poverty. Deputy president has been good at giving people names, that has been his character trait but Kenyans also know when you ask who is a thief, even a young child, they will tell you it is Ruto," Mr Kamket fired.
Kamket was referring to DP Ruto's blistering criticism of Raila Odinga made during a women empowerment forum in Nyamira County.
Ruto railed against Mr Odinga, saying that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader had an interest in ensuring that his people were perpetually trapped in poverty.
The Tiaty lawmaker said that poverty was temporary but the tag of thief was permanent.
Kamket's strong remarks mark another escalation of words between the DP and those opposed to his 2022 presidential ambitions.
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) MP has vowed to campaign against a Ruto presidency.
