Kisii Senator Prof Sam Ongeri has revealed how easily Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i can win the presidency in 2022.
Ongeri who was among thousands of mourners who attended the burial ceremony of former Nyaribari Masaba MP Hezron Manduku said for Matiang'i to win the presidency, he needs to be guided accordingly by President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
"As much as we want Matiang'i to be the next president after Uhuru completes his second and last term, he must be guided by Uhuru and Raila. As leaders from the Gusii community, we must go slow and beg Uhuru and Raila to guide Matiang'i," said the veteran legislator.
The ex-Education minister also said Matiang'i can easily win presidency should he get the support from the Gusii community.
He said Gusii community members and all leaders must move to the same direction and back Matiang'i.
"Matiang'i is required to have the support from the entire Gusii community. All leaders irrespective of their political affiliations must rally behind Matiang'i for other communities to throw their weight behind Matiang'i," he noted.
Ongeri also appealed to a section of Gusii politicians who are in the 'Tangatanga' movement pushing for DP William Ruto's presidency in 2022 to return home and support one of their own, the Interior CS.
