Mudavadi declared that his name must be in the ballot paper come 2022, and he would not drop his bid to support anybody else.

The former Vice President has been under pressure from a section of politicians from his Western Kenya backyard to abandon his quest and throw his weight behind Deputy President William Ruto.

Led by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, the leaders have been urging Mudavadi to accept to be Ruto's running mate, saying that was the only sure way the Luhya community could ascend to power.

But in an exclusive interview with NTV on Tuesday night, the ANC boss dismissed the calls and declared his readiness to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya's fifth President.

"I've made it clear that the DP William Ruto is a competitor; we can remain friends but on this 2022 competition, we can not work together. I am telling Kenyans that I am offering myself when the time comes, to serve as President, " he said during Sidebar show.

Mudavadi further dismissed he was banking to win the top seat as the compromise candidate in the supremacy war between DP Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga, insisting Kenyans would elect him because he is the 'right' person.

"I prefer to refer to myself as the right candidate and not the compromise candidate; 'Compromise' suggests that Kenyans preferred another candidate but settled for me. I am telling Kenyans I am here, and I firmly believe I am the right candidate," added the former Deputy Prime Minister.
