The suspect is reported to have gone on another date, leaving her lifeless body in a suitcase.

22-year-old Millane was last sighted in Auckland, New Zealand in December 2018.

She hailed from Wickford, Essex.

Her family attended the murder case and sat just metres away from the suspect.

Prosecutors have made the allegation that the Briton was murdered through strangling after she met her murderer on a dating app called Tinder.

The defence has denied that Millane was deliberately killed, saying that the death was caused accidentally in the heat of passion.

According to Crown prosecutor Robin McCoubrey, the two went to several bars before Millane was killed.

"They were plainly comfortable in one another's company that evening," he said.

"From the footage, you'll see them kissing. Both parties probably anticipated sexual activity," the prosecutor added.

Mr McCoubrey said that the defendant had severally changed his story, initially saying that they had just had drinks and separately went home.

He later changed the story and said that they had engaged in intercourse.

The body was found curled in a suitcase in a forested area.

The grim discovery was made a week after she was reported missing.
