He accused the officers of sleeping on their job.

According to the county commissioner, due to the officers' laxity, it took locals ages before they could get birth or death certificates thus leading to a huge backlog that has been witnessed in the recent past.

“The time I was transferred to Eldoret from Kakamega five months ago, we had a lot of problems at the office of the Civil registration where residents took two years to get birth certificates but now things have changed,” he said.

Jaldesa who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Monday said the department has now been streamlined and that residents can get services as soon as they apply for their crucial document.

He, however, did not indicate where the officers were transferred.

“We have brought in new officers and forms that will Fastrack the process. Our aim is to ensure that in at least one week one must have these crucial documents,” said Jaldesa.

He also revealed that his office will ensure chiefs and their assistants distribute uncollected birth certificates to their areas of jurisdiction.
