Angry residents of Nyambaria in Magombo, Nyamira county on Tuesday chased a mother of four who abandoned her husband and got married to another man near her home.
Area assistant chief Bonface Onditi confirmed the shocking incident saying the woman identified as Sophia Bonareri has been having an affair with Pius Nyariki despite her being married to Peter Mogesa.
Mogesa reportedly lives 200m away from Bonareri's matrimonial home.
"Bonareri moved to Nyariki's home five days ago and they have been living together as husband and wife. She abandoned her four kids with their father Mogesa until this evening when her husband reported the matter to my office," said the chief as reported by Egesa FM.
The chief protested Bonareri's bad behaviour saying he will not entertain such marriages in his area of jurisdiction.
He said he called for a meeting with villagers who resolved that the woman should be banned from the village.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba while commenting on the incident wondered why Bonareri abandoned her children and husband for Nyariki who has been marrying and chasing away women.
"I was shocked to learn about the incident. The villagers' decision to chase her away was good and peaceful. I'm happy the villagers didn't beat her up. I urge married women to be faithful in marriages," Mariba opined.
