In a tweet shortly after the match, Sonko applauded the team for their efforts in securing a crucial win for the country.

"Congratulations #HarambeeStars for the hard-fought victory against our good neighbours Tanzania and well done Michael Olunga for winning man of the match in this encounter. Let's now focus on our next match against Senegal. #KenyaVsTanzania #AFCON2019," he said.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris also applauded the team for winning the match.

"Well done Harambee Stars. Kenya stands firmly behind you in your quest for the ultimate victory," she tweeted.

Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga stole the show on Thursday night as the national football team staged a historic comeback to beat Tanzania’s Taifa Stars 3-2.

Olunga scored twice to give Kenya a much-needed win ahead of their clash with Senegal in their last Group C match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Harambee Stars’ captain Victor Wanyama is among players who played a pivotal role in the win.

Following the win, Harambee Stars need to secure a point in their next fixture so as to qualify for the next round.
