Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has dismissed claims by a section of politicians from the Rift Valley region that the ongoing fight against corruption is targeting the Kalenjin community.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Wambugu said over 115 Kenyans were facing various graft-related charges, with only 12 of them being from the Kalenjin community.
"Kalenjin political leaders led by the DP, Sudi, Kipchumba etc; would like us to believe that this corruption fight is targeting the Kalenjin. For the record out of the 115 Kenyans charged in court on corruption cases so far; 43 are Kikuyus, 18 Luos, 12 Kalenjins, 6 Kambas, 6 Merus, 5 Kisiis, etc," reads part of the Jubilee MP's post.
"This story of Kalenjin leaders trying to play victim and lying to their community that the Kalenjins are being targeted is complete BS! Total #Upuz!" added the MP in the post.
The MP insisted that no tribe was being targeted in the graft purge pointing out that "No one has ever stolen public funds and shared with their community."
A section of politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto has been up in arms over the graft war and accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of being used as a political tool ahead of 2022.
This follows fears that billions of public funds could have been lost in multi-billion two dam projects in Elgeyo Marakwet county.
Already investigations into the projects are ongoing.
