According to a Statement from Safaricom, Collymore died on Monday morning at his Nairobi home after losing the battle against Leukemia.

Following the news, Wanyama took to his Facebook page to mourn the fallen CEO.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing on of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. My condolences go out to his family and the entire Safaricom staff. You were an inspiration to many, Rest in Peace Bob Collymore,” Victor Wanyama said.

In June 2017, Wanyama was appointed the official ambassador for the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom football challenge.

“We chose Victor (Wanyama) as our ambassador because he presents all the values that we believe in. He is hard-working and committed. It is very rare to find a footballer who is as dedicated and disciplined like him,” Collymore said at the time.

Under the deal, the winners of the first edition of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom got a once in a life-time one-week trip at Wanyama’s English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, in London.

Nyanza’s Plateau Queens and Rift Valley’s Kapenguria Heroes won the inaugural Chapa Dimba edition for the girls and boys categories respectively, hence getting an opportunity to visit Wanyama in London last year.
