Religious leaders in Kilifi have hailed the Supreme Court’s decision on the dress code of Muslim learners in school.
Led by Malindi Jesus Care Center (JCC) Bishop Thomas Kakala, the clergy said that both Christian and Muslim learners should adhere to the rules and regulations of the schools they are enrolled to, instead of fighting school regulations that cut across all learners on religious bases.
Kakala said over the weekend that parents and leaners should consider and understand the principles of the schools before enrolling and not use their religious faiths to change rules that have been in place for decades by imposing their own.
“The court did a good thing to allow school administrations to have the final say on the dress code of the leaners. We have Christian learners in Malindi who enrolled in Muslim schools, and they are dressing per the school demands, and we have no issues with that” said Kakala.
The January 24, Supreme Court’s ruling on hijab-wearing in schools sparked a heated argument, divided opinions from politicians and human rights organisations.
