Former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi wa Wamwere now wants the government to come clear on the fading contraband sugar saga.
This follows claims that the import had lead, copper and mercury deposits, rendering it harmful for human consumption.
Speaking on Radio Sauti ya Mwananchi's 'Cheche' on Saturday, Koigi urged the government to come clear on the whereabouts of the confiscated consignment.
He demanded that the government tells Kenyans whether any of the poisonous product has found its way into the market.
"Kenyans must be told on the whereabouts of the sugar and whether any has been released for sale," he said.
Koigi said the sugar held must be destroyed to prevent rogue government officials and business entities from redirecting it to the market.
"The sugar must be destroyed and burned to be specific, as that is the only way Kenyans will be sure that they will not encounter it in their cups in the coming days," he added.
The former legislator also called for those involved to be charged.
"They must be charged with intentional murder as they knowingly allowed the poisonous product to end up being consumed by unsuspecting Kenyans," he added.
