There is a sombre mood in Matibo village, Nyanguru in Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County after a 39-year-old man was electrocuted on Monday evening.
Confirming the incident area chief Enock Omanwa said the deceased Jared Mainya was pruning trees in his compound when he met his sudden death.
"Mainya was cutting prolonged branches of his trees near the electricity wires. One of the heavy branches fell on the electricity wires connecting Kiogoro and Kegati and this prompted him to also fall on live wires," he said.
Mr Omanwa said the deceased died on spot due to the electric shock.
"Mainya could not survive because he was electrocuted by the live wire. Residents should contact Kenya Power officials whenever they want to cut trees near electric cables," he stated.
He appealed to residents not to plant trees near electrical cables.
"Trees planted where electricity wires pass should be cut down to curb unnecessary deaths," said the chief.
The administrator said the body of the deceased was moved to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital morgue.
He urged Kenya power officials to preside over the cutting of tall trees near electrical cables.
