After UK's immediate former Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson went around the local media defending himself against allegations of leaking confidential information that led to his firing, Prime Minister Theresa May reportedly told him to "go away and shut up".

Similarly, after Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's grilling at the Senate on Thursday over the bizarre allocations to operations that do not even belong to the county government during the 2017/2018 budget, on Friday he went to the media to defend himself.

"This is nothing but political witch hunt meant to tarnish my name. In fact that audit report is malicious, defamatory and misleading," Waititu told a local vernacular station.

Waititu added that Kiambu County did not have a budget for the said functions saying that he was baffled how the 'funny figures' found their way into the Auditor General’s report.

Kiambu County Government is alleged to have allocated Sh973 million for the coordination of State House functions where Sh902 million was spent in the year under review.

Also, Sh58 million was spent on the South Sudan peace mission and another Sh804 million on free primary education according to the audit report.

While Waititu has got every right to defend himself, it is high time he was also told to 'shut up and clean up his mess'.

Otherwise, his sustained claims of witchhunt from political detractors won't help save things.
